Bayern Munich offer positive Kane injury update

Bayern Munich offered a positive update on Harry Kane s status after the striker sustained an ankle injury against Bayer Leverkusen.

The England captain, who did not register a single shot during Saturday s 1-1 draw despite Bayern dominating, was injured in a collision late on at the Allianz Arena, where Aleksandar Pavlovic cancelled out Robert Andrich s earlier effort.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany was hopeful Kane would be fit to feature against Aston Villa in the Champions League on Wednesday.

On Sunday, Bayern released a statement confirming tests run on Kane had revealed no significant damage, and that the 31-year-old would continue to receive appropriate treatment , though they did not confirm whether the forward will be fit to face Villa.

Euro 2020 data dive: Impressive Italy march on, Switzerland made to wait

Italy wrapped up a wonderful Group A campaign on Sunday as they overcame Wales 1-0 in Rome.

The win ensured Italy finished top of their Euro 2020 group, while Wales claimed second place ahead of Switzerland, who eased past Turkey 3-1 in the day s other game.

Vladimir Petkovic s Swiss side will have to wait until the group stage finishes on Wednesday to know if they progress to the last 16 as one of the best third-placed finishers, but a fine display in Baku has put them in a strong position.

Using Opta data, Stats Perform takes a look at some of the best facts from the two games.

Rio 2016: What happened with the rules? – Falcao fumes at Kenny gold

Jason Kenny delighted Team GB fans by winning a sixth career Olympic gold medal on Tuesday, but the controversy in the keirin final caught the ire of Monaco striker Radamel Falcao.

Kenny etched his name among the pantheon of British Olympic greats when he matched Chris Hoy s national record of six gold medals by sealing victory in contentious circumstances in the velodrome.

The race had to be restarted twice, and on the first instance Kenny was faced with the threat of disqualification for overtaking the derny bike before it left the track.

However, the 28-year-old was cleared of wrongdoing and, after a failed second attempt, Kenny finally took the win ahead of Matthijs Buchli of the Netherlands and Malaysian Azizulhasni Awang.

But Falcao, who is well k…

Euro 2008 round one, Who’s HOT and who’s NOT, volume 1!

Day four of the Euro 2008 tournament saw Russia lose 4-1 to Spain and defending champions Greece lose 2-0 to Sweden.

Spain looked very impressive with a hat-trick from David Villa and a late goal from substitute Cesc Fabrigas. Russia were really not in the game at all and scored only a consolation through Roman Pavlyuchenko.

I don t want to sound anti-Greek but the talk before the tournament was that they would be more expansive than they were in 2004. They weren t. They were very, very, very boring. I didn t mind who won but I cheered when Sweden scored!

With the first round of matches completed it is time to look at who is hot and who is not, so far in the competition. We will revisit this after each round of matches and the quarter-finals, semi-finals and f…

Northern Ireland to build on Euro 2016 spirit with Turkey camp

Michael O Neill is excited to build upon Northern Ireland s Euro 2016 foundations with a training camp in Turkey in the coming week.

Northern Ireland s appearance in France was their first at a major tournament in 30 years and they made a name for themselves with a surprise run to the last 16 before losing out to eventual semi-finalists Wales.

O Neill had a number of inexperienced players – including Tom Flanagan, Shay McCartan and Paul Paton – in his squad for Friday s 1-0 home victory over New Zealand, but he still sees evidence of the team spirit taken away from the European Championship.

Ahead of next Saturday s World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan in Baku, Northern Ireland will conduct their preparations in Turkey – something O Neill hopes can improv…

12-12-2009 Chelsea vs Everton

Saturday s match up sees high flying Chelsea take on a struggling Everton team who find themselves in the wrong half of the table and with injuries to key players to boot.

Chelsea have been in devastating form this season and despite their surprise loss at home to Manchester City last week, they still sit at the top of the Premier League with a two point cushion between themselves and last years champions Manchester United. Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from their loss to City and will see this as an eminently winnable game. Recent injuries to John Terry and Michael Essien will rob the team of two key players this week but the sheer size and quality of Chelsea s squad means that this can be overcome. With Joe Cole and Frank Lampard both back to form and fitness I expec…

NFL Week 16 Survivor Picks: Cowboys Play it Safe

With the pandemic kicking the piss out of NFL depth charts right now, survivor pool players aren’t alone in their struggle entering Week 16.

The very teams they’re selecting are just trying to avoid COVID and make it to gameday with key players available. Add to that chaos, the Arizona Cardinals going down to the Lions in Week 15, and it’s a Christmas miracle that anyone has made it this far.

And speaking of the holiday, some survivor pools are forcing poolies to treat the Thursday and two Saturday tilts as a separate slate. Yikes.

Here are our Week 16 survivor picks – savvy and safe – as well as a team to avoid. Good luck and be safe out there.

Bengals vs Steelers Odds, Picks, and Predictions Week 16: Poor Offenses Make For a Division Game Dud

No two teams in the playoff race have had more different experiences trotting backup quarterbacks onto the field than the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Right now, Cincinnati is on a three-game win streak and sits as the No. 6 seed as they head to Acrisure Stadium to take on the faltering Steelers, who have lost three in a row.

As it turns out, Mitchell Trubisky isn’t very good and Pittsburgh had to shift to third-string Mason Rudolph in hopes of sparking an offense that can’t get out of its own way.

Meanwhile, when the world thought the Bengals season was done, Jake Browning started to look like the guy who led Washington to the College Football Playoff in 2016. The NFL odds give Browning and Co. the edge as the favorites in a …

One Reason Your Favorite Team Will Win Super Bowl 59

The new NFL season is almost upon us and with it comes the blind optimism that our favorite team can defy the Super Bowl odds and win the Super Bowl.

That promise of a championship is the reason why there’s been a bottle of champagne (disgusting vinegar by now) at the back of my fridge for the past 15 years, awaiting the Dallas Cowboys’ return to Super Bowl prominence.

Whether you’re a Kansas City Chiefs fan pulling for a three-peat or a Carolina Panthers backer beating the drum for unlikely Big Game glory, the 2024 NFL odds give you a chance to put your money where your Sunday obsession is.

And who am I to say you’re wrong? I’m perpetuating that unwavering hope — at least until after Week 1 — giving a rea…
